iRAD Mobile APP Now Used By Karnal for Commuters’ Safety

The police of Karnal, a city in Haryana, will use the iRAD system, a mobile app, to locate the accident-prone areas and fix the road defects that may, unfortunately, lead to mishaps. 

Lately, in April this year, in Chandigarh, Dharam Pal, UT Adviser to the Administrator, rolled out the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) project.

Swati Gupta, National Informatics Centre District Rollout Manager, said that this app would assist in black spots identification that the concerned agencies will rectify, like the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), PWD (B&R), and others integrated with the iRAD app. 

Further, she added that the police officials and the Civil Hospital’s emergency staff are already trained as per the system requirements. Soon, doctors, paramedical medical staff, and health workers will get training. 

What is iRAD? An Introduction 

The initiative of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) project was launched with an intent to improve the country’s road safety. 

From the four stakeholder departments, police, transport, highways, and health departments, iRAD will accumulate and showcase road accident data collection. 

Initially, this project was proposed in 2019, but at that time, the COVID-19 pandemic its implementation.

iRAD’s beta version was launched in February, recently, in almost 59 districts of six states, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Haryana. 

How Does iRAD Mobile App Work?

Post any luckless road mishap, during the investigation at the accidental spot, the investigating officer will use the iRAD app to enter every detail, like time of accident, day, collision type, weather condition, and more relevant aspects. 

Ahead, the concerned departments will use the data to analyze the accident cause and formulate strategies, like engineering interventions, recognition, and rectification of black spots, etc.

Vahan and Sarthi software and agencies, like NHAI and PWD (B&R), are integrated with this app that lets officers input the mishap details, against which a unique ID is created.
